Muse Take on Dubstep?

Two words: Fuck and Yes.

From Matt Bellamy's Twitter page: "All natural and technological processes proceed in such a way that the availability of the remaining energy decreases. In all energy exchanges, if no energy enters or leaves an isolated system, the entropy of that system incre,cre,cre,cre,c,c,c.reases.

Energy continuously flows from being concentrated, to becoming dispersed, spread out, wasted and useless. New energy cannot be created and high grade energy is being destroyed. An economy based on endless growth is..."

I think it's genius. Muse have recognised the direction popular music seems to be taking and they've twisted it, bent it, and thrown it back in our shocked faces.

Although there have been very mixed opinions on this revolution (many negative) I love it already and cannot wait to hear the full album! It is remnant The Prodigy, Enter Shikari and Skrillex's collaborations with Korn. Priceless!

HERE'S SOME UPDATES FOR YOU

It's been a hellishly long time, I know - I've been horribly busy, sorry! As you can probably tell, I've made a few changes. It's all been a bit rainy, miserable and busy this week - three exams, reading and researching, and very occupied watching Disney films on the VCR I just got back in my room. erm.

On Tuesday 23rd May I played at the Bristol Olympic Torch relay. Was a lovely day in sunny sunny Bristol, drinking strawberries&cream Starbucks frappuchinos, reading NME and playing to a crowd of roughly 6000 people - above is a less than flattering photo of me on the screen. Screw fat-o-vision!

Then, on the 2nd-4th of June, I played at Osfest, in Oswestry. It was a rainy rainy RAINY weekend, spent running around the fairground with old friends, watching Benjamin Francis Leftwich and meeting Hard-Fi. Cheers to all the people who stood in the rain to watch me... means a lot :) major hugs.

The week after I went to London for a few days, played some gigs, had some meetings, went to the recording studio for a bit (see photo above. My name is Symbolface, and I have a symbol face) and generally bumbled around with my band, mum and manager. Was a bit of a laff'. I also watched The Devil Inside, which is pretty fucking bad. But hilarious.

This weekend: my Darcy is coming over tomorrow night for pizza and a Tim Minchin marathon, and then Oceanfest! If you're going, come watch me play at 1pm on Saturday. Also playing on Saturday is Natty and Ben Howard, whom I will be watching! So come find me, and say hey.
Lots of love and peas. xxx

(p.s. tune of the week - Write It On Your Skin by Newton Faulkner. Absolutely lush.)

I've really been loving Instagram recently. I recently made an account, and I love the filters and how simple it is - I think it would be better if you could edit it in more detail, but overall it is groovy... I'm mazmoon on instagram, care to follow? :)

On Tuesday 15th May I competed in the Country Calling Battle of the Bands. The prize was to play at Beautiful Days festival, Larmer Tree and the Eden Project Sessions. Unfortunately I didn't win but I was happy to lose to the two winners - Saturday Sun and Tom James :) They were both incredible, as were the rest of the contestants.

Saturday Sun

Although we didn't win, me and the band had a lovely night playing Jenga and Dominoes whilst waiting to play, watching the other bands and eating some g-o-r-g-e-o-u-s chicken curry.

Not a lot's been happening here this week, except I was played on Radio 1 again last night! :) Huw Stevens, just after midnight. He played my current single, 'Heart in Your Pocket' - the video, excellently filmed by my lovely boyfriend Darcy-Owen Roberts, is below:

Have a spectacular weekend!
p.s. today I am japanese

Thursday, 10 May 2012

Hello! :) It's Thursday 10th May, which means discovering photographers, developing film in the darkroom, and reading Across The Universe, my current obsession. The weather's been.. less than happy today, however I was instantly cheered when I discovered a hidden gem...

Lara Jade

Lara Jade is a fashion, portrait and commercial photographer currently working worldwide. She combines whimsical, dreamy moods with a sense of romanticism, fantasy and occasional darkness. Her photos capture my dream summer - sun, sea and beautiful dresses! The clothes all her models wear are beyond wonderful - and each photograph expresses personality perfectly. Some of my favourites are below - I wish I could've included her whole portfolio...

Reading Lara's blog, I found that she is not only an amazing photographer; she is also every bit as lovely as the scenes she captures. If every day was like these photos, I don't think I'd ever sleep.

Not a lot of other news here, except if you live near Exeter in Devon, I'm playing an 18+ free gig at the North Bridge Inn with my band tomorrow - I'd love to see you there :) I'm off now, to revise, eat Angel's Delight and go back to reading Across The Universe. (more about that later!)

'Can you imagine a life without festivals?'

It's May 3rd. This means:
  • Tomorrow is May 4th, for all the Star Wars nerds
  • The sun is coming out (slowly, but it's getting there)
  • I need to get on with my exams
  • Summer is drawing near
  • In exactly a month, I'll be at a festival.
Yes, festival season is almost here - this means digging the wellies out, having excited spasms pretty much every hour because of how excited you are about the next amazing lineup, saving up all our cash and blowing it, buying endless amounts of glitter, wishing you owned a campervan, and hiding bottles of wine in a crumpled-up heaps of clothes in your rucksack and calling it 'efficient packing'.

Festivals will always be the best part of the year for me - having grown up going to festivals, I get more and more excited for them every year. Waking up early in the morning to make breakfast on a barbecue, pretty stalls and lights and flags everywhere, running around at 4am making new friends, trampling through mud, having a jam session around a fire with people you met 5 minutes ago, and most of all, the overwhelming sense of family.
Looks like this is gonna be my summer this year:

I'm playing at Osfest, Oceanfest and possibly Beautiful Days - hope to see you there!
What festivals are you going to this summer?
